Judge Erik Møse (Norway)
Ex-President of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda

Born in 1950; Head of Division in the Ministry of Justice until 1986; Deputy Judge; Supreme Court Advocate at the Solicitor General’s Office (1986 to 1993); Judge at the Court of Appeals in Oslo (1993 to 1999), Vice President of the ICTR (1999 to 2003); President of the ICTR (2003-2007).

Judge Møse participated in the drafting of Protocols 6 to 11 of the European Convention on Human Rights and pleaded cases before the European Court and Commission of Human Rights. He chaired, for instance, the Council of Europe’s Steering Committee for Human Rights and the Committee which drafted the European Convention for the Prevention of Torture, as well as the Committee which elaborated the draft Act on incorporation of human rights conventions into Norwegian law. Judge Møse graduated from the University of Oslo and had post-graduate studies in Geneva. Since 1981, he has been lecturing at Oslo University. He is a Fellow at the University of Essex (UK) and has published extensively in the field of human rights.
